Inheritances

No one passed away but I inherited these awesome items with the purchase of our new home. The fridge is from 1950 and has never needed repair. Three of the benches were left and they fit perfectly under the built in desk area of the kitchen. The chair picture also gives you a nice view of my kitchen floor. It's original with the house from 1950 and I LOVE it. Of course we also inherited a few items we weren't so much interested in but these items make it so worth it.

Antique Chairs

I have this chair. It is supposedly from the 1940's, made by my Great Uncle. It was really tatterd, the fabric faded and stained and the wood worn. I took it into an upholster friend I know and picked out some sparkly new fabric (cream base with wine/red viney flowers) that is both contemporary but also fits the era of the chair. It is currently being reupholstered and the wood refinished with a dark walnut stain and I should have it back in 4-6 weeks. Can't wait to show you!

Bedroom Bedding

Along with bedroom furniture is bedroom bedding. I wanted something bold, becuase we aren't painting the walls (they are cream/khaki) and I also wanted it to be a bit contemporary, because I like to mix traditional and contemporary a lot. This is just a standard "bed in a bag" becuase its easy, fairly inexpensive and...flashy :) So, we purchased this set, becuase it was the only one out of the hundreds I looked at that I even remotely liked and I hope it grows on me more and more once it is in our house. BTW, it is goign on our brand spanking new KING bed :)

Bedroom Furniture

I REALLY want new bedroom furniture. It has been the "next" purchase on my list for some time. Like you, I know exactally what I want, and exactally where it is, except I am missing one key element. Money. Buying a house sucks up all your money so then you have to start that savings account over again until you can afford it. And the stuff we want isn't even that expensive. Here it is...

freaking awesome

I just found the greatest thing for making pleated curtains!! No sew triple pleat panels...I know breathe with me. They have a video showing how it works--actually three of them here. I've never tried these because it looked so hard but this, this is totally doable. Remember these? This is what she used. Awesome.

Itching

In a perfect world this would come live with me. But since we are trying to not spend unnecessary money and I can't see buying furniture specifically for a rental I will live with what we have now. I REALLY REALLY don't like our couch. Its from ikea and Eric's bachelor days. Its falling a part and the fabric is horrible for cat hair. Our couch, notice the metal bars on it:

I want to make a slipcover for it. I have 20 yards of green fabric from our wedding at my parents house. Do you think this is enough if I don't cover the back of the cushions with it? Do you think its possible with this type of couch? Will you piece together these curtains for me since I will undoubtedly not want to touch a sewing machine for a month after completing this project?

**Ruching**

Apparently It's RUCHING not ROUCHING. A little googleing and found what you're looking for-actually it's the fourth search item down. And, to make life a little easier, you can use bias tape. All that ironing gets old fast. HERE

Yet another purse

While in bellingham I visited a fabulous fabric store and chose these fabrics to make yet another bag. I love this pattern and these fabrics are so light and fun. This is "The Practical Bag" pattern I mentioned in one of my first posts. Easy, but so fun and it ends up being such a cute cozy bag!

Baby Quilts

This was my first hand quilted quilt. The first one I made for Amanda when Max was born was hand tied. I really like hand quilting. Its meditative for me and I enjoy seeing all those little stitches come together at the end. I am by no means an expert--I cannot for the life of me figure out the rocking stitch so I've come up with my own methods.

This particular pattern is from The Purl Bee. I love it. It's so graphic and a quick piece to quilt. I cut, pieced, quilted, and binded the entire quilt in one week thanks to someone's unexpected early arrival! The quilting is done in Fuschia thread and follows each of the zig zags as well as in the middle of the white sashes.

I've since made one more that from this point forward will be called the evil quilt--the fabric I used was awful and frayed to pieces. No pictures-sorry but for a boy and in greens. Next zig zag quilt will have no triangles--I'm excited to try this one out. Hopefully the alignment won't be as difficult as with the triangles.

You can see the quilt in action here.

I am in the south you know--southern women love their accessories and trims :). Pom Poms, sparkles, tassles who knows! Off to the mecca of home decor fabrics and trims to see just what will work. The point being--I'm back! (almost)

Buying a House

Check out the house we are buying!!
http://www.johnlscott.com/propertydetail.aspx?GroupID=202716645&ListingID=300257890

So, this process of buying and selling a house, as you know, has been a complete nightmare! I cannot wait until I can move into our new house and not move again for at least 30 years (that is the plan anyway...) In fact, I am so excited to move in and the house is in such good condition that we aren't going to paint, or do any projects at all before we move in. We are even leaving the kitchen the beautiful mint green (the color most of the house is - I kind of like it).

Once I am back on my feet from surgery, it will be time to move in. I will post pictures as we move. Then, I really must get back to crafting. I am getting the itch for it.

Moving day

>

> Onward to Atlanta! The movers are here, packing's begun (I've been
> told they should be done by two), and I'm so excited to be with my

>
> Tomorrow everything gets delivered to our house. The poor husband.
> It's been almost a year since he's lived in a house with furniture.
> I hope you'll forgive me for neglecting crafty pursuits for a bit.
> I'll have lots to share soon!

Buttercup Bag

Have you seen this? Its a free pattern from madebyrae.blogspot.com called the Buttercup Bag. If you go through her history you'll see a bigger version as well (I think blown up 150%). If I try another bag-this will be it.

Fw: Usefulness

This purse pattern is not functional at all. I put my stuff in this purse and it shifts to one side making it quite lopsided. I don't recommend it..

So much to do here...painting this ginormous room and three more bedrooms to paint as well. I have window treatments on my mind right now. If I ever want to sleep past 7 am these have to get made.

And the picture? Well that's our first meal in this house of course! Biscuits and gravy per the husband's request. This is special gravy though...maple blueberry breakfast sausage from Whole Foods...yum!

ps need a cat? I have three that are driving me INSANE. Hopefully after tonight there will only be two. We MAY of found our stray Cilla a new home. Let's keep our fingers crosses, ok?

No pictures, but...

I was packing last night, just a few things out of my office and I came across a project I had forgotten about for some time. It is my portfolio of printed photos. I continue to keep my flash drive updated with my portfolio of photos, but I had neglected my printed album for quite some time. Maybe after I move I can get back to that project so that I can have a beautful printed book of my photos. If you haven't seen my portfolio site, you can check it out at http://farmersdaughterphotography.shutterfuly.com. I hope to continue to grow my photography to a place where I can afford my own domain, sell my pictures and services on line, and promote myself throughout the area. 10 years ago, I would have never guess that I would have been this interested in photography. I thank my husband for pushing me to explore my talent.

Packing Distraction

Packing Distraction

Not sure if this counts as productivity, but I thought I'd draw something to print as a moving announcement. Not sure if I like the pencil. If I can get my hands on some markers I'll probably redo this.

That's Ruby sticking her head out of the box, Lucy, and of course Hercules our big cat.

(Sorry for the photo quality...had to use my iphone to get a picture of it.)
